About this tool

A form with no fillable fields, a contract with yesterday's date, a scan that needs your name on a blank line — this tool lets you type text anywhere on a PDF and white-out existing text to replace it, right in your browser. Added text is real, selectable PDF text (not a screenshot), positioned exactly where you placed it.

Fair warning about what "editing PDF text" can mean: a PDF stores text as fixed drawing instructions, not as an editable document, so no browser tool can reflow the original characters in place. The whiteout-and-retype technique is how free PDF editors everywhere handle corrections — and for forms, dates, names and notes it works perfectly. Everything runs on your device; your documents are never uploaded.

How to add or replace text in a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF — every page appears, ready to edit.
  2. In Add text mode, click where you want text and type. Drag the handle to reposition; adjust size and color in the toolbar.
  3. To replace existing text, switch to Whiteout, drag a box over the old text, then add new text on top.
  4. Click Download PDF to save your edited document.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The document is rendered, edited and saved entirely in your browser — contracts, forms and IDs never leave your device.

Can I change text that is already in the PDF?

You can replace it visually: draw a whiteout box over the old text, then type the new text on top — the standard technique for correcting dates, names and amounts. Editing the original characters in place isn't possible in a browser, because PDFs store text as fixed drawing instructions with embedded fonts rather than as editable text.

How do I fill in a PDF form?

Choose Add text, click each blank line or box, and type. Drag any text by its handle to fine-tune the position, and adjust the size so it matches the form, then download the filled PDF.

What fonts and characters are supported?

Text is embedded using the standard Helvetica font, which covers English and Western European characters (accents included). Other scripts, emoji and special symbols aren't supported yet — the tool warns you before saving if a character can't be embedded.

Is the added text part of the PDF or just an image?

It becomes real PDF text: selectable, searchable and crisp at any zoom level. Whiteout boxes are drawn as solid rectangles beneath your text. Note that whiteout covers text visually but does not remove it from the file — don't rely on it for redacting confidential information.
