Discount Calculator
Price, percent off, done — with stacked discounts and tax handled correctly, live as you type.
About this tool
Standing in the aisle wondering what "30% off, plus an extra 20% at checkout" actually costs? Enter the price and the percentages and read off what you pay, what you save, and the true combined discount — stacked discounts are applied in sequence the way stores do it (that combo is 44% off, not 50%), and optional sales tax is added on the discounted amount you actually pay.
Frequently asked questions
How is a percentage discount calculated?
Multiply the price by the discount percent and divide by 100 — that's the amount saved; subtract it from the original price for the sale price. A $80 item at 25% off saves $20 and costs $60.
How do stacked discounts like "30% off + extra 20%" work?
The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original — 30% then 20% is 44% off in total, not 50%. Enter both percentages and the tool applies them in sequence, showing the true combined saving.
Is tax applied before or after the discount?
In practice sales tax is charged on the discounted price you actually pay, and that's how the calculator applies it.
Can I work out the original price from a sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount/100): something that costs $42 after 30% off was originally $42 ÷ 0.70 = $60. The percentage calculator on this site handles that reverse case directly.
