About this tool

README files, blog posts, documentation, GitHub issues, Notion exports — Markdown is everywhere, but writing it blind means guessing whether that table or nested list will actually render. This free online Markdown editor shows a live preview beside your text as you type, using the same GitHub-flavoured rules you are used to: headings, emphasis, links, images, fenced code blocks, tables, task lists and blockquotes. A formatting toolbar wraps selected text in the right syntax, so you never have to remember whether a link is parentheses-then-brackets or the other way round.

Everything runs in your browser. The rendered HTML is sanitised before it is shown, your draft is autosaved to local storage so an accidental tab close does not cost you the page, and nothing is ever uploaded. When you are done, copy the HTML for a CMS or newsletter, download the .md source, or export a standalone .html file that looks right in any browser without extra stylesheets.

How to use the Markdown editor

  1. Type or paste Markdown in the left pane — the preview on the right updates as you write.
  2. Select text and use the toolbar for bold, italic, headings, links, code, lists, quotes and tables.
  3. Click Copy HTML, Download .md or Download .html to take your work with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Markdown sent to a server?

No. The preview is rendered by JavaScript inside the page and the draft is saved only to your own browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded, so notes, documentation and unpublished posts stay on your device.

Which Markdown syntax is supported?

Standard CommonMark plus the GitHub-flavoured extras most people rely on: tables, fenced code blocks, task lists, strikethrough and automatic links. Raw HTML inside the Markdown is sanitised before preview, so scripts and event handlers are stripped for safety.

Will my draft survive if I close the tab?

Yes, usually. The editor autosaves to local storage a moment after you stop typing and restores the draft when you return in the same browser. Private windows and cleared site data do not keep it, so download the .md file for anything important.

What is the difference between Copy HTML and Download .html?

Copy HTML puts just the rendered fragment on your clipboard, ready to paste into a CMS, email template or web page. Download .html wraps the same content in a complete standalone page with minimal styling, so it opens and looks right in any browser.

Can I use the toolbar to format selected text?

Yes. Select a word or lines, then press bold, italic, link, code, heading, list or quote and the Markdown syntax wraps or prefixes the selection. With nothing selected, a placeholder is inserted at the cursor and highlighted so you can type over it.
