About this tool
Eggs on the stove, a pomodoro at your desk, a timed exam, a rest between sets — you need a timer that is one click away and loud enough to notice. This free online timer gives you a countdown with hours, minutes and seconds, one-tap presets from 1 to 60 minutes, a progress bar, and an alarm with flashing display when time is up. The remaining time is also written into the tab title, so you can keep an eye on it while working in another tab.
Switch to the stopwatch to measure elapsed time to the hundredth of a second, with a Lap button that records each split alongside the running total and marks your fastest and slowest laps. Both modes read the clock from real timestamps rather than counting ticks, so they stay accurate even when the browser throttles a background tab. Everything runs locally in your browser: no sign-up, no download, and the Fullscreen button turns any screen into a giant, readable clock.
How to use the timer
- Pick a preset or type hours, minutes and seconds, then press Start.
- Pause and resume at any time; use Fullscreen for a big display on a projector or TV.
- When the countdown hits zero the display flashes and an alarm beeps — press Reset to go again, or switch to the stopwatch tab.
Frequently asked questions
Will the alarm sound if the tab is in the background?
Yes in most cases. The timer is based on real clock timestamps, so it stays accurate even when the browser slows background tabs, and the alarm plays when the countdown reaches zero. The tab title also shows the remaining time so you can glance at it from another tab.
Why is there no audio file — where does the alarm come from?
The beeps are synthesised on the spot with the Web Audio API built into your browser, so there is nothing to download and the alarm can never fail to load. If you hear nothing, check that the tab is not muted and that you pressed Start after the page loaded, which is what lets browsers play sound.
How accurate is the stopwatch?
The stopwatch reads the browser's high-resolution performance clock, which is accurate to well under a millisecond, and displays hundredths of a second. The display refreshes with the screen rather than on a fixed interval, so the figure you see when you press Stop is the true elapsed time.
What is the 25-minute preset for?
Twenty-five minutes is one pomodoro — the focused work block in the Pomodoro Technique, followed by a short break. Use the 5-minute preset for breaks and the 15- or 30-minute presets for longer rests between sets of pomodoros.
Can I use the timer in fullscreen on a projector or TV?
Yes. The Fullscreen button enlarges just the time display to fill the whole screen, which works well for classrooms, workshops, cooking and presentations. Press Escape or the button again to leave fullscreen; the timer keeps running either way.
