PNG to WebP Converter
Turn PNG images into much smaller WebP files while keeping transparency. Drop as many files as you like — conversion happens on your device.
About this tool
WebP is the image format the modern web runs on: at the same visual quality it is typically 25–35% smaller than PNG for graphics and dramatically smaller for photographs saved as PNG, which makes pages load faster and improves Core Web Vitals scores. This free converter turns PNG files into WebP directly in your browser, keeping transparency intact — logos, icons and screenshots with transparent backgrounds come out exactly as they went in, just lighter.
There is nothing to install and nothing to upload. Drop one file or a whole folder's worth, and every image is converted locally with the browser's own encoder at a quality setting tuned for the web. Download the results one by one or all at once. Because the processing never leaves your device, it is safe for unreleased designs, client work and anything else you would rather not hand to a random server.

Frequently asked questions
Does WebP keep the transparency from my PNG?
Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel just like PNG, and this converter keeps it. Transparent logos, icons and cut-outs stay transparent — no white or black background is added.
Is WebP lossy or lossless?
WebP can be either. Browsers encode WebP in lossy mode when a quality value is given, which is what gives the big size savings; the quality used here is high enough that the difference is invisible for web use. If you need a byte-exact copy, keep the PNG original.
How much smaller will the file be?
For screenshots and graphics expect roughly 25–50% smaller files; for photos that were stored as PNG the savings are often 70–90%, because PNG is a poor fit for photographic content in the first place.
Which browsers and apps support WebP?
All current browsers — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (14+), Opera — display WebP, as do WordPress, most CMSs and modern image editors. A few older desktop applications and email clients still don't, so keep PNG for those cases.
Are my images uploaded during conversion?
No. Conversion runs locally in your browser using the Canvas API — your files never leave your device, and there is no file-size or file-count limit beyond your computer's memory.
