About this tool

One scanner session, one giant file — and now you need chapter three as its own document, or the single signed page out of a forty-page contract. This free PDF splitter breaks a PDF apart three ways: extract every page as a separate file, split by page ranges you type (such as 1-3, 4, 7-10, where each range becomes one PDF), or split every N pages for batches of same-length forms. The page count is shown as soon as the file opens, and ranges are checked against it before anything is built, so a typo gets a clear message rather than a broken file.

Everything runs in your browser using the open-source pdf-lib library. The document is never uploaded, which makes the tool safe for statements, ID scans and anything else you would not hand to a stranger. Pages are copied without re-encoding, so text stays selectable and images keep their full quality. Download the parts one by one, all at once, or packed into a single ZIP archive built on your device.

How to split a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF onto the box — the page count appears immediately.
  2. Pick a mode: every page, custom ranges like 1-3, 4, 7-10, or every N pages.
  3. Click Split PDF, then download each part, all of them, or a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server when I split it?

No. The document is opened, split and saved entirely in your browser using the open-source pdf-lib library. Nothing is transmitted, so bank statements, contracts and medical records never leave your device.

How do I write page ranges?

Separate ranges with commas and use a hyphen for spans, for example 1-3, 4, 7-10. Each range becomes one output PDF, so that example produces three files. Pages may appear in more than one range, and a single number extracts just that page.

What does Split every N pages do?

It cuts the document into equal chunks from the start: with N set to 2, a 7-page PDF becomes pages 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7. It is handy for scans where every booklet, invoice or form takes the same number of pages.

Does splitting lower the quality of the pages?

No. Pages are copied into each new file untouched, so text stays selectable, links keep working and images keep their original resolution. Only the page grouping changes, and each part is usually much smaller than the original.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Encrypted PDFs cannot be split here — the tool detects them and shows an error instead of producing broken files. Remove the password in your PDF reader or editor first, then split the unlocked copy.
