About this tool

Screenshots with too much chrome, photos with a stranger at the edge, avatars that need to be square (or round) — cropping is the most common photo edit there is. This tool keeps it simple: drag a box over the part you want, snap it to a preset ratio if you need one, and download. The crop is taken from the original full-resolution image, so quality is untouched, and the circle preset produces a transparent-cornered PNG ready to use as a profile picture anywhere. Need a round avatar at an exact size, or an oval? Try the dedicated Circle Crop tool.

How to crop an image

  1. Drop your image — a crop box appears over it.
  2. Drag the box to move it; drag the corner dot to resize. Pick a preset for exact ratios or a circle.
  3. Click Crop & download to save the PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The image is cropped on your own device using the browser's canvas — it never leaves your computer or phone.

How do I make a circular profile picture?

Choose the Circle preset, position the circle over the area you want, and download. The result is a PNG with transparency outside the circle, ready for avatars and profile photos.

Does cropping reduce image quality?

No — the crop is taken from the original full-resolution image, not from the on-screen preview, so the kept pixels are untouched.

What format is the cropped image?

PNG, which preserves quality losslessly and supports the transparent corners of circle crops. Need a smaller JPG afterwards? Run the result through the Image Compressor.
