Online Notepad
A clean, distraction-free notepad that autosaves in your browser as you type — with word count, copy and .txt download.
About this tool
Sometimes you just need somewhere to type: a phone number before it slips away, a draft reply, meeting notes, a packing list. This free online notepad opens instantly with no account and no app, and autosaves every keystroke to your browser's local storage, so a refresh, a crash or a closed tab does not cost you a word. Live word and character counts sit above the page, and you can switch between three text sizes or a monospace font for code and tables — your choice is remembered too.
When you are done, Download .txt (or Ctrl/Cmd+S) saves the note as a plain text file, and Copy all puts it on your clipboard. Nothing is ever uploaded: the note exists only in this browser on this device, which keeps it private but also means it will not sync elsewhere — export anything important. It is a simple, fast scratchpad that runs entirely in your browser, ideal for quick notes, drafts and temporary text you would rather not paste into a chat app.
How to use the notepad
- Click into the box and start typing — the Saved indicator confirms each autosave.
- Adjust the font size or switch to monospace if you prefer; the settings persist.
- Press Download .txt or Copy all to take the note with you, or Clear to start fresh.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my notes stored?
In this browser's local storage on this device only — they are never uploaded to ToolDesk or anywhere else. That means they will not appear on another computer or in a different browser, and clearing site data for tooldesk.cc deletes them, so download anything you want to keep.
Do I need to press Save?
No. Every keystroke is saved automatically a moment after you stop typing, and the Saved indicator shows the time of the last save. Closing the tab, refreshing or losing power will not lose what you had written up to that point.
How do I get the note out as a file?
Click Download .txt, or press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on a Mac) while the notepad has focus, and a plain text file is saved to your downloads folder. Copy all puts the whole note on your clipboard to paste into email, a document or a chat.
Is there a size limit?
Browsers allow roughly 5 MB of local storage per site, which is several million characters — far more than a typical note. If a save ever fails because storage is full or blocked, the indicator says so, and you can still download or copy the text.
Can I use it in private or incognito mode?
Yes, typing, counting, copying and downloading all work, but most browsers wipe local storage when a private window closes, so autosave only lasts for that session. Download the .txt before closing the window if you need the note later.
