About this tool

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC — a clever format that halves file sizes, right up until you try to open one on a Windows PC, send it to someone on Android, or upload it to a website that's never heard of it. This free converter turns HEIC and HEIF photos into standard JPGs that open absolutely everywhere.

Unlike most HEIC converters online, this one processes your photos locally in your browser — your pictures are never uploaded to a server, which matters, because personal photos are exactly the kind of file you shouldn't be handing to random websites. Drop in one photo or a whole camera roll's worth.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Drag & drop your .heic or .heif files onto the box above (or click to browse).
  2. Wait a moment — HEIC decoding is heavier than other formats, so each photo takes a second or two.
  3. Download your JPGs individually or all at once.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads have used by default since iOS 11. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG at the same quality — but many Windows PCs, Android apps and websites cannot open it.

Why won't Windows open my iPhone photos?

Windows needs paid or separately installed codecs to display HEIC. Converting to JPG sidesteps the problem entirely — the converted photos open everywhere, forever.

Are my photos uploaded during conversion?

No. The conversion library runs inside your browser, so your photos never leave your device — they are not sent to any server.

Can I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?

Yes: on the iPhone go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will then be saved as JPG directly. Photos already taken stay HEIC — convert those here.

Does it convert multiple HEIC files at once?

Yes — drop in a whole batch of .heic or .heif files and download the JPGs individually or all together. HEIC conversion is computationally heavy, so large batches take a little longer than other converters.
